Eric is a recovering alcoholic. He’s currently staying at a halfway house and working in Pro Sales at a local building supply store. He is also connected to one of our beloved referrers, FATHER project: https://www.goodwilleasterseals.org/services/helping-families-veterans/father (as a participant in their program and also as a volunteer tutor). Eric is humble, funny, and intelligent. We had a lively conversation about the proper use of an Oxford comma, which made him particularly endearing to our staff, and it was a delight to outfit him with business casual clothing and a bus pass so he could get to work.
In a thank you note, he said, “…when I finally sobered up and attempted to put my life back together I felt overwhelmed. I was able to find employment, but my drinking had cost me everything. I had a great deal of anxiety over what clothes I needed and what I was to do regarding transportation, and Small Sums has relieved some of that for me. They have made it easier for me to rebuild my life. With my deepest gratitude I thank you.”
